This week 18 of my favorite bloggers, along with myself are sharing a plethora of wall treatments other than shiplap, thanks to Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof. Also, if you are hopping on over from PMQ for Two…Hello! As we all know, shiplap has been ALL the rave for the past year or so, but what do you do when it is just not your thing? I know for me, it is not something I would consider doing in my home. It is just not my thang and I know that there has to be others who feel the same way. With that said, I rounded up 5 infamous wall treatments Domicile 37 has shared. All of these projects are also rental friendly…so renters, get ready…

 Wall Treatments other than Shiplap

1. Large Wall Art

If you cannot paint your walls or add a wall treatment. The easiest thing you can do is hang (large) art. Decorating with with art is an easy, versatile way to make a statement in your space. I am such a maximalist that my motto for art is the bigger the better! If you are on a budget, creating art may be the easiest route for you. Shop your local thrift stores for large art and use that as a base for your creation. One of my absolute favorite art installations came from when I was living in my NC house. I created wall art using thrifted frames, mod podge, and magazines. My thoughts on art is anything and everything can be art. Art determined by personal taste cannot be defined. 

2. Fabric

When in doubt, go with fabric. There are more fabric pattern selection than wallpaper…in my opinion. How many times do we come across a piece of fabric and say “…Damn, I wish I could add that print to my wall?” Me, ALWAYS! When I participated in my first ever One Room Challenge, I wanted the atmosphere of my space to feel chic with an edge. Unfortunately, I could not hang wallpaper and or paint the walls, so I purchased a crap load of fabric and went to town. If you plan on hanging fabric as a wall treatment, not only should you take pattern into consideration, but also texture and fabric blend.

3. Removable Paper

Okay guys, this is a BIG one!….Contact Paper! Not only can you line your drawers with them, but they actually stick to the wall too! Surprise! My Fornasetti Faux wallpaper was one of my popular and viral post ever!!!! I literally printed off the images and used contact paper to help adhere them to the wall. They stuck to the wall without a hitch and removal was easy peasy. Now-a-days you can find contact paper in a variety of prints. Another alternative to contact paper is removable wallpaper. Temporary Wallpaper (as it is known) is extremely popular, trendy in prints, and can appeal to almost any style. I have yet to add any removable paper to my house, but I have been coveting over these prints for a good while. Hey, what can I say, I love a busy pattern!

4. Tiled Walls

More and more I have been seeing tiled walls from floor to ceiling come back into style. The Makerista recently made over her kitchen using this technique and this trend has been splattered all over pinterest in terms of bathroom makeovers. Tiling your walls is nothing new, but extending it past the 18″ backsplash is totally a classic, timeless look that makes your kitchen feel finished and fresh. For my renters out there, you can achieve this look with smart tiles or faux tiled wallpaper. My take is, if you can add shiplap to any wall, you can add tile too! Haha!

5. Build it Out

If in doubt, build it out! If you have your heart set on creating a statement wall, you can always build it out. That is what I did in my last rental. I so badly wanted a black fireplace, so I built one. I am pretty sure it was not fire proof, but since we never use our fireplace that did not bother us. Just note, when you are creating a statement wall, take safety precaution and research heavily prior to building it. The last thing you want is for your plan to fail or someone to get hurt.
