Hello! I am back with another foyer/sitting room progress update. Truth be told, I thought I would already have the wallpaper up, but I just received it this weekend and it was too cold to hang it. Excuses, eh? Yep…I am allergic to the cold. Haha! No, I got distracted and started working on another room. Haha. Seriously, I have a problem guys! If you caught my instagram story this past weekend, you probably can tell just how far along I am. What you are going to see today, is exactly how I got to that point.
*Please excuse the photos, they were taken on my phone. Yeah, I know….
When the mister FaceTimed me to do a walk-through, I realized that this room and one of the other rooms were missing one full wall of crown molding. I figure I share the imperfections of this house as you may realize them anyways. Well, it was explained to me that my lovely home was actually a 2 bedroom home (that is why the rooms are so large) and the front formal living room (which back in the day must have been huge) was split in two. On the other side of that wall is the third bedroom. Yes, they built that wall over the windows and on top of the carpet. I know, weird. Oh well, I do not plan on changing it. They did a good job making it look seamless where the window is. The only way I knew they built the wall over the carpet was when I was painting the room, I could stick my fingers under the baseboard and still feel carpet. How crazy is that? I guess every house has their secrets. Anywho, I did a little designer secret to disguise that missing crown molding. I will share it with you in another post….I can’t give all my secrets away in one post, right? Haha!
I briefly shared with you last week in my 5 things to consider before moving in your home, that I originally wanted a white-walled house. Well, shortly after moving in, I painted this room white…and hated it. I was in a creative roadblock and it was not until I told myself to paint the room (an actual color) that everything started to come together. My mind was at ease. Also, you see that pile of lumber? That was my $$$ mistake. Well, not really a mistake but that was me being impulsive and optimistic. I plan to use it but I have to wait till the spring/summer time. I need to move that wood to another location. It is most certainly cramping my style!
I know, I keep going on…but I figure that is what y’all want to hear. I ended up painting my foyer and sitting room black. I still have yet to do the doors. I just hate painting. It takes me forever. I used Private Black by Behr in a flat finish for the main walls and a semi-gloss finish on the trim and molding. I plan to use a semi-gloss finish on the doors as well.
Here is a night shot of the space. Pretty cozy, eh? I know, I am a MESS! I thought about painting the ceiling, right now I am content with the way it looks but I am not ruling it out. I have a hefty to-do list. I am hoping to accomplish more before the week ends.
To-Do List

I love the black paint! Your to-do list is long but I know you can get it finished and make both the spaces look fab.
It’s looking like a “Jess room” now that it’s painted black! I think I know your “designer secret” about how you are camoflauging the missing crown?! 🙂
Seriously Jess, can you teach me to be cool, or whatever the right word is today? I love this! Can’t wait to see everything come together. I’m going to be drooling for sure!
You know I love black walls, so this is awesome. <3
Wow, oh wow!! That black! In love. I’m dying to see the wallpaper and that flat-lay at the top is like – oh em gee! Looking forward to checking out next week’s post!!
1st: the black is SO YOU. It’s a perfect choice. 2nd: All my photos are with my phone 🙁 The shame and horror, lol.
Corinna, you crack me up! You are so chill, it’s cool. Hey, in Justina Blakeney’s FYI section she admits that she uses her phone for majority of her pics. Look where she is now.
