Before the New Year came about, I started drafting out my editorial calendar for this year. One of the challenges I knew I would be participating in again is the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living. So if you are stopping by from Bigger than the Three of Us, Welcome! I love Ashley’s cool, laid back style! You can check out my NC rental house New Year New Room Challenge from last year, here. If you haven’t checked out my Home Tour: Move-In Edition, you just may want to check that out. There are so many spaces that need sprucing up so I am always seeking inspiration and trying to do something to forward the progress in making this home mine. For this challenge, I knew I wanted to add my touch to the foyer and sitting room.
(The dining room looking into the foyer and sitting room)
The foyer opens up into the sitting room, so it was only fitting for me to work on both spaces at one time. For some reason when I did the FaceTime walk through for this home, I did not know that the sitting room was open to the foyer. I kept thinking all I had to do was add doors the sitting room to close it off, but to my surprise the sitting room is open and carpeted with a partition wall on the side of the room closest to the front door. I wish the parquet flooring from the foyer flowed into the living room and unfortunately we haven’t had any success in finding matching parquet floors. I even contemplated on DIYing it myself. I know…CRAZY, right?
I do not want to give everything away, but this is kinda what I am working with. I have most to all of this stuff on hand already. I am still debating if I want an acrylic coffee table or this one by Nate Berkus from Target. I am also still contemplating on whether or not I want to go with the Frame of Mind collage Art Print by FFoart. This print is absolutely stunning but gore at the same…I wonder what my guest would think. Hmmmm. Something to think about. I have a couple of other suggestions but they too are a little on the dark side. I just like the colors used. On the wild side, my middle child approved of the art. To my defense, I do not think she knows what she is looking at. So far this is where I am at, jump on over to Jen from Fresh Crush to see what “fresh” style she is bringing into one of her spaces.

Jess!! I can’t wait to see this space. I love how you are able to use moody vibes and still make your spaces super inviting. Can’t wait to see those walls.
Thanks! I still have a bit more painting to do, but I am super excited to see this room come together.
OMG I love, love, love the dark and moody! I love the art. It’s perfectly creepy. I actually totally dig that stuff. Do you girl, it’s going to be fab!As for the coffee table, I quite like the acrylic.
Thanks! This is all so helpful! I like creepy too. I keep looking at it thinking it is too perfect of a piece not to get.
Do it! I love that art! It’s amazing. It’s going to be an amazing room!
Thanks! I think I just might do that!!
This is going to be great Jess! I’m loving all your new touches to your new place!
Thanks love!
So good and so YOU! The acrylic table and light fixture are staples for the room in my opinion! I think your art should reflect the style and vibe you want for your home and since you’ve always loved unique, interesting pieces – why not again?!! They’re not permanent, right?! Change them out later if you tire of the. Looking forward to more 😉
Thanks girl!
Amazing! I can’t wait to see this reveal Jess!
Love that you’re injecting your “signature” moody vibe in the foyer/sitting room! The sconce and mirror are gorgeous. Is that wallpaper? Can’t wait to see you work your magic in here. 🙂
Thanks Carol! Yup, that is wallpaper. Once it comes in, I will share a close up.
I wish that flooring continued too! So annoying. I can’t wait to see more of your house.
I am looking forward to see how this comes out!
I love the art! Don’t bother putting something in unless you love it, right? And it’s clearly true love. I’m excited to see what you wind up doing and especially can’t wait to see the wallpaper. I know it’s going to be dramatic, edgy, and beautiful!
Jess, I’m loving this design, and I think if that artwork make you feel something, you should go for it! It would be a good conversation started too! Excited to follow along with your progress!
I just love your new house Jess! I can’t wait to see how this area comes together. There’s so much character and interest in your home. Your design plan is going to look AMAZING!
