I really need to get my butt in gear and make things happen in my casa. One of the only ways for me to commit to getting “thangs” done is by participating in a challenge. So I decided to enter the $100 room challenge hosted by Erin from Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry. The direction I plan to go with this room is everything Wes Anderson. I am a huge fan of his and have already worked on some projects for this room that were inspired by him, check here and here.
I am making over this room for my son. It went from a disastrous red color to a pale blue. I even showed off a bit of it when I shared my “make-shift” office/study using World Market products. We used it as a study for a while, but as spring and summer are rolling around, we really needed to turn it into a bedroom because we plan on having guest over to stay. My son’s room will be somewhat of a multi-purpose room. It will be his bedroom, a guest room, and the kids tv room. We (the mister and I) are normally opposed to having any TV or electronics in the kids room but since we do not have a playroom, we have to make due with what we have. In other wards, they are making a huge mess when they watch TV in our main living area and it is driving me bonkers.
*SERIOUSLY, that red is awful. I don’t know how many homes I scrolled through when we were looking that had red rooms and bathrooms. ugh…
This is the darkest bedroom in the house and was originally a part of the formal living room. That is why the window is backed up to the wall. Crazy, huh? The walls have been painted already and 95% of the items in the room I already own prior to this makeover. The only thing I plan to really purchase for this room is the bedding. I really want a bench in this space, but it will push me over budget unless I find a second hand one. I will be on the lookout…we will see. Be sure to come back weekly to see all the room updates.

Love this mood board! I can’t wait to see the room. Red rooms are rough. I don’t hate red, but red walls make you *feel* crazy. Maybe you could make a bench.
Thanks! I thought about making a bench….but I am not 100% sure if I want to do that. There is just so much in this house that has to be done….ugh.
So…OK…I did not know who Wes Anderson was and what about him would inspire a room. So I went to the googler and as soon as Hotel Budapest popped up I was like “Oh, i get it! That’s be so cool!”. Now that I know, I can’t wait to see what you end up doing in there!
haha! Thanks. Yep, he is one super talented person and full of inspiration.
I love Wes Anderson and I love this design plan. I totally feel you on how frustrating it is to have the main living area in constant destruction from kiddos. I really wish we had a play room too…I am guilty of tv in my toddler’s room. Cannot wait to see the reveal.
Thank you! Crossing my fingers that when my kids gather in that room the mess of toys does not make it out to the hallways and the main area of living.
Jess, this is going to be such a great, cool space! I can’t wait to see it evolve through the challenge.
Thanks Sarah!
Excited to see the results, lovr the mood board!
Awww, than you!
I used to love that dark red color… now, not so much. What was I thinking? We actually just painted over our dark red entry last fall. So much better now! I love your mood board for this space and can’t wait to see this room come together. So happy to have you joining the challenge!
Awww, thanks Erin! I am excited to be participating!
I love your mood board! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
wahoo, thanks!
I had a dark red bedroom many years ago. It was so heavy and, well, dark 🙂 The plans for this room are amazing. So excited to see the result!
thanks!
