Oh my, this has been a long week and I am exhausted. I am seriously like drunk tired…if that is a thing. Anyhow, I am bit late on this post, but you gotta do what you gotta do! While working on my girls’ room for the One Room Challenge, I decided to do the hall as well. I was struggling with it all, but I am so happy it is finally over. Before I spill the tea about this space please note that I had this elaborate plan of using what I had and buying a nice Persian rug, but the mister had last minute reservations on my plans. Along with the girls’ room (shared here), compromises were made in this space but the original black and white vision I had for this space remained. The vibe I was going for is a moody black and white vintage hallway and I think I accomplished it.

Here are some pictures of what my hallway used to look like, not bad but the walls were nasty dirty and that carpet was something else. I wanted to puke when I was pulling it up. It was so dirty and it stunk, BIG TIME! It was worst than the guest bathroom.
The major changes that occurred in the hallway was the installation of the door knobs and plank floors. Let us start with the knobs…You probably remember a while back when I posted about vintage reproduction door knobs with Nostalgic Warehouse, see here. Well, I collaborated with them again to make this whole hallway ORC possible. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with a company that I genuinely love. I decided to mix and match so that the doors would not be heavily ornate, if you know what I mean. I chose to use the Dart & Egg collection on all of our bedroom doors and the hall closet and a crystal knob on the guest bathroom. The closet door in our hall houses all my junk but that will soon be used as a toy storage so the dead bolt is the PERFECT fit to locking the kids out that space and hopefully will the solution to keeping the rooms clean. Although not a surprise, I chose to go with an antique brass finish, they match the cabinet hardware on my built-ins perfectly and complement the whole black and white scheme nicely.
On to the flooring…I laid plywood plank floors on top of our subfloor and I stained them using WOCA Diamond Oil Carbon Black. Around the time we moved into this house, WOCA reached out to me about using their products. What I appreciate the WOCA family is how helpful they are. I told them my vision and they made it happen. I know some may think I am crazy for going black on my floors…it shows dirt and you need to upkeep it more than you do normal flooring, but I LOVE IT! NO regrets! I hope to find a nice Persian rug to add a bit of color to the space. I am trying to stay away from red based Persian rugs (not sure if I will be able to because they are so gorgeous), so if you have any in mind let me know. Thanks!!!
This hall was HARD to photograph.
In the end simplicity won over and I chose not to go with the personal pictures. As the challenge came to an end all my thoughts on what I wanted on the walls started to get foggy and nothing was making sense to me. I think I was just doing too much to make any decisive decisions. Literally the night that the ORC went live, I had a revelation while looking for crap in my hoard closet and I decided to make some decorative sconces using stuff I had on hand. Yes, this revelation came AFTER I had hauled all three of my kiddos to three different stores and fed them cereal and left overs for dinner (We barely eat left overs). I had these sconces stored in my hoard closet and I drilled a hole in the middle of wooden container lids so that I can hang them. These are purely decorative and not functional. Haha faux sconces! The mirror is a vintage mirror that I purchased at the thrift store for $3. It has some antiquing on the mirror to give it that classic, vintage vibe and the frame is naturally distressed in all the right places.
If you have yet to check out my shared girls’ room that I made over for the One Room Challenge, please head on over. —->HERE< I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I would like to give a message of thanks to Linda from Calling it Home for organizing and hosting this challenge. You are the BEST!

Such a classic look! I love those sconces! And the door hardware is stunning – what an awesome idea to mix it up a little! Gorgeous!
I love that campaign style dresser and how you went dark with your doors-it makes such a dramatic effect! Great ORC makeover!
