Sharing my Kitchen Progress: Tile Countertop Removal for the Spring 2018 ORC
Hello guys and welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge. As I do with most makeovers, I will not go into complete depth of what is going on (You can follow me on my insta stories to get all that juicy info). I am heavily in the mix of things and my brain normally is fried whenever I am working on a project. Instead this week, I am going to catch you up to speed to where I am at currently with my makeover. To see my before pictures and my plans for this challenge please revert back to my week 1 post.
Before Kitchen: Move-in Pictures
When we moved in the kitchen theme was country…rooster and a pattern tile with cream cabinets. The kitchen stayed like this for over a year. I absolutely positively could not stand the tile countertop.
Demolition of Tile Countertops and Backsplash
Here is a lovely pic of the kitchen a week before Christmas. Our sink stopped working so instead of putting a new one in over the ugly countertops, I decided to take the tile off of….everything. In this picture you will notice that I painted that red drop down, black. I think I was going through a phase because I don’t really know why I did that.
To pop off my tiles all it took was a hammer and screw driver. It came off pretty easily compared to the stuff I saw on google. If and only if my countertops were not mixed match, I think I would have rocked the cream laminate and went a little Mad Men Crazy up in here. You should have seen the scenarios I was dreaming up…until I discovered that none of the laminates matched. That put me in a sad funk for a while, then I went back to my original vision.
To remove all the glue and residue, I used my Home Right Steamer. It came off in seconds. It is seriously a little miracle worker and can do triple duty….it can be used on so many different things, it is ridiculous.
Later this week, I plan to post my time lapse video of all of this…so be on the lookout. I still need to edit the video, but I wanted to have something to show you so I ended up hitting the publish button. If you would like to see other home decor videos I have created…see HERE.
Here is a small portion of my kitchen. The vibe in this picture is the vibe I going for all over the space. I still have to paint the cupboards and apply the ceiling treatment (crossing my fingers to that happening). If you look closely you can see where I applied citristrip to my cabinet doors.
