Hello guys! My good friend Jewel from Jeweled Interiors asked me this summer to participate in her color splash hop…I couldn’t say no, because y’all know…I don’t do color the way others do. Hahaha! I like mine muted down, moody, with pops of red hues. Also, this gives me the opportunity to share with you my updated family room. If you have followed me on Instagram, you probably have seen this space already.
I decided to create four zones in my oversized family room. The first zone you see when you wall in is the seating area by the fireplace. The second zone is the actual “family” area. The area where we sit and chill. The third zone is a really narrow area located in the back of this room. I moved the campaign desks from my girls’ room into this area and the kids use this area to draw and create art. The last and final zone is the gaming area and my “faux” bar (we do not drink).
Seating Area by the Family RoomÂ
I created this area to break up the awkward layout of this space. We always need seating so I thought it would be cool to add some seating by the fireplace so guest have someone to sit and have quiet conversations. Under the sofa table is a bench that can easily be pulled out (and needs to be reupholstered). I want to add a floral print inspired my The House of Flowers beginning credits. If you find one, let me know!
The Main Family Room
This is the main family room. In this area is where the bulk of the color lies. I have my salmon colored loveseat and my tomato red couch. Both couches are vintage. I try to keep the pillows to a minimum in this space because it just gets thrown on the floor and I can’t stand that. This is also the home of my beloved burl coffee table and “lavender” built-ins.
The “Kids Area”
For two years I could not figure out what to do with this back area. I am still looking for the right “lounge” chair for this area and I have a huge planter with a snake body and lion face handle that I cannot wait to put in this back corner. I am stumped on what type of plant to put in it…It has to be fake but real looking because I kill ALL my plants, not on purpose though. Also, this space is dark…another reason plants don’t survive this room. I purchased this runner to protect my plywood floors from my kids…no, not really but that is what I told the mister. I purchased the runner from eBay and I chose this over-dyed rug because it lacked color. I felt like this space is so colorful from an aerial perspective that I need it tone down back here.
The Game Area and Faux Bar
Last but certainly not least is the game area and faux bar. This is my absolute favorite area in this space. Â It speaks for itself. You can check out more of this area, HERE.

Thank you Tasha!
I haven’t checked in for a while and the color you picked for those shelves is unbelievably cool! I always love your photography and your designs!
Your living room is honestly #goals. I have been lusting after that coffee table for a while, and every time you share it I fall more and more in love!
I absolutely LOVE your use of color. It’s just enough, but not so much that it is overwhelming. And I love that you come up with reasons to purchase home decor to rationalize with the mister! I do it too!! Love the subtle lavender built-ins! Love everything!
I agree with Tasha! It’s a totally decadent palette! Beautiful space Jess!
