OMG, I’m finally finished with the kids hangout space turned virtual learning study. FINALLY! This space has been a labor of love and I am so happy to share this reveal with y’all. Fun fact, I told my kids this space would only take two weeks to do…I apparently lied! LOL! Remember this was only suppose to be a refresh for the New Year, New Year Room Refresh hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living. You can see how this space has transitioned and evolved during the last few years at New House Home Tour, Iris Apfel inspired Dining Room, and Dining Room turned Workspace.

Part of the hangup with this space was that I decided last minute to remove the popcorn ceiling on my own. We were going to hire it out but for this room alone it would have been pricey because removing popcorn ceiling in one room for a contractor isn’t worth it. I also decided to hand stencil the flowers on the wall which took some time simply because I hate painting.
The Hangout Room Plans

The kids wanted teal so I ran with it. However finding a complementary color for the flowers was excruciating. It was literally mind wrecking sampling and sampling colors. Although none of the colors sampled looked bad with the teal, I wanted sophistication mixed with fun and none of those colors were screaming what I envisioned instead they screamed wild and too much fun. I will talk about this later, in the meanwhile you can revisit my kids hangout room plans.
Lounge Area
Like my family room, this area has zones. Looking into the space the first zone you will see is the lounge area. This area houses a vintage loveseat flanked by semi built-in shelves with the tv sitting on the largest wall in this space and a coffee table used to anchor the space. This acrylic table adds visual interest but doesn’t weigh down the space making the space feel open and not congested. There is a striped black and white beanbag chair for the kids to relax in…per request from the kids.

I have bins on the bottom row of the shelves that the kids can use to put their virtual learning supplies.

I used artwork by my kids to add a nice personal touch. It really is fun and adds a nice contrast to the floral wall stencil.

I love how the evening light kisses this space. This was a two-day photo shoot with half the pics taken in the evening and the other half taken during the day.
Game Table Area
It is no secret that I love a good game table area. This area has been claimed by my eldest already and she will probably use it as a drawing surface.

Record Player Corner
This area is predominately for looks but we do use our record player. Also, I needed somewhere to put this cool tone on tone Greek chair. Let me make note, the curtains are dark teal curtains from Target that I bought specifically for this space. The accent table was a happy shop your home find. To add visual weight to that area, I layered it with a floral side table I had laying around.

Sneaking this photo of me taken dressed in fun on the evening of my 36th birthday because I love how the evening light kisses this space.
