Phew, we finally reached the end stretch of this week. Please know, I say that with a warm heart and a smile on my face. This has been a crazy busy week but a good one. Earlier this week, I shared my whimsical winter eclectic Christmas home tour also linking up with 25 other stylish designers/stylist. For more holiday inspiration you may want to check them out. Today, I will be sharing my Whimsical Swan Inspired Christmas Tree. If you are new to this hop Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living created the whole “My Home Style” concept and every year she does a Christmas tree edition where we use key words and images to describe our tree. To those of you who hopped on over here from Jennifer’s site, Fresh Crush, WELCOME! Jennifer has such a cool style and vibe and I am hoping that her vibe rubs off on my tour today. LOL!
Three words to describe my tree, would be WHIMSICAL, METALLIC, and MOODY. When I look at my tree, I feel like I am on the set of Once Upon a Time. Yep, I said it, I do not know if it is the branches, the black, or the silver. All I know is that I feel like Regina in its presence. I sound silly, but it is the truth. Just saying. Anyhow, I plan to add more to it next year and fill the top with silver branches galore. The branches were a last minute addition when I decided that my snowflake star looked a bit silly just dangling up there. I also used some pinecones to bring in another natural element.
*Please note, I do not think stars look silly on Christmas trees, I just thought it looked silly on THIS tree.
Most to all of my ornaments and tree came from Kmart. They were all apart of the Jaclyn Smith collection. The Kmart in my town is closing so I was able to snag them for a good price. My only regret is not buying more. I have theses really pretty large white ornaments that look like feathers have been laid on them. I think they might be one of my favorite. I also have some black and white mesh in my tree, both came from different suppliers. I personally like the texture and look of the white mesh. I also think that it bends nicely.
I really, REALLY, really wanted swans ornaments, but I did not want to DIY them. I looked everywhere and kept striking out. Target even sold out of their wool swan ornaments before I could even get my hands on them. During a last minute stop at At Home, I found some mauve colored swans. I ended up purchasing all the ones they had left. The Gold sparkly swans I purchased at…get this…Cracker Barrel on THANKSGIVING. Yep, my Thanksgiving was spent at Cracker Barrel! We came back from Mexico that day and had nothing prepared so we ate dinner there. They have the best pancakes, ya know?
My favorite thing to add to my tree is a bead garland, I do not know what it is about it…but I feel like it makes the tree come alive. This is the first time I ever used these colors combined in a tree. I am normally use to seeing red beads on my tree, but these silver ones look like a bead of jewels. It is so pretty. The gold sparkly ornament below is one of my favorites as well. This is another Jaclyn Smith ornament and it is glass with glass little beads all over it. SO PRETTY!
I do have a good amount of black on this tree but it is disguised pretty well under all that green. From a distance the tree looks a bit sparse, but it is only like that because that is where the black is. I really wanted some black shiny ornaments from Jaclyn Smith, but they were all sold out by the time I purchased mine. I know I keep talking about Jaclyn Smith, she just had some GORGEOUS ornaments, some of the best out there. This is NOT a sponsored post…I promise! I also have a handful of faux crystal snowflakes, icicles, and faux crystal jewels. I have never used snowflakes or crystals in my life on any of trees, but I like the way it looks. I think it just might be my new thing. I don’t know, but it sure looks pretty.
The image below is to show off all the different style ornaments used on my tree and the colors used. I really did not want gold, but I had a huge batch of gold and silver ornaments that I got from the thrift store for a whopping total of a dollar (it was like 50 ornaments). I ended up having my children paint those ornaments for me. Below you can see their art work. I think they did a wonderful job and I like that they were not heavy on the black paint.
Here is an image of tree not lit, but looking gorgeous. If you close you can see some of my kids DIY ornaments (that don’t really match the tree) that they added this past week.
…and a picture of it all in its glory! For more fun, festive Christmas tree ideas, be sure to stop by my dear friend, Cassie Bustamante. I know she has a TON of holiday inspiration that will blow your mind. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
