If you are hopping on over from Newly Woodwards, HELLO!!! I was asked to participate in the Dec-o-ween Halloween hop hosted by Gretchen from Boxy Colonial. I can honestly say, if she had not asked my house would not see one ounce of Halloween this year in terms of decor. I have been so busy trying to fix up the family room that everything else went to the wayside. Haha! Anyhow, I was inspired by my Society 6 print to create a masquerade halloween mantel. I thought it fit well with the mood of my home and personality.
For the record, my Halloween decor stays up ’til Thanksgiving…NO LIE. I do not do orange, but pumpkins are season appropriate. I recycled all to most of my pumpkins for this vignette and I used moss to give it sort of an enchanted Cinderella-esque look. Almost like this is a masquerade fairytale halloween ball. Haha!!! I used brass fixtures to add that old world charm to fireplace to give it a regal feel….Y’all know, I love me some brass!
To recreate this look you can pick up greenery from you local craft store. Make sure you use a coupon or try and catch them when they are on sale, because these things are not cheap. I will not lie…I splurged on the greenery, but luckily for me they were 50% off. Yay!!!! I love how it falls down my mantel and the birds add a nice mystique touch to the space. I used recycled dollar tree birds that I have hoarded for the past X years. A good design tip to take into practice when decorating seasonally is to repeat the same colors throughout your house so that it is all cohesive. Also, use colors that play nicely off of each other.
I love to use everyday decor in my seasonal decorating so it does not look so kitschy, so I pulled out some bust that I had stored in my hoard closet and covered there eyes with ribbon. I figure they could play ninja! Haha!…No, I was just too lazy to create a “real” mask for them, so I took the easy way out and gave the illusion of a mask using ribbon. Betcha wish you thought of that one. LOL! The larger pumpkins are real and I picked them up from my local grocery store. To give them height I used a brass bowl and stacked them on top of each other so they can balance out the fireplace nicely.
If you are looking for more great halloween ideas, be sure to check out the Dec-o-ween bloggers post from earlier this week. I am pretty sure there is something here to fancy all different types of halloween styles.
