The air is crisp and sweater weather is in full effect over here in West Texas. Let me not forget, it has been raining a ton and it has been extra gloomy, which is typical fall weather for us. All I have wanted to do is bundle up with a cozy blanket, a good magazine, some hot cocoa and relax. But before I can sit down and relax and enjoy what the fall season offers, I really needed to do some rearranging and bust out my fall decor and accessories. I am not really big on traditional autumn decor, but I do like to sprinkle a lit bit of this and that here and there in true Domicile 37 fashion. One ways I added comfy, cozy autumn touches to my dark, eclectic home is with baskets.
Baskets are one of the most versatile home decor items out there. No matter what your personal home decor style is, they are always on trend and seem to bring a little bit of warmth into a space. Wayfair was kind enough to send me a set of baskets for this fall season so I can share with you how I use them. The baskets they sent me are Seagrass by Mistana. They come in three different sizes and can hold a good amount of stuff. They are heavy than your typical retail basket and the weaving on it is pretty tight. They have a classic color block pattern which is a feature I generally like on my baskets. I am not for sure why, but that is one of the reasons why I chose them.
I like to use my baskets for everything from storage ideas to decor. I have a plethora of throw pillows and blankets so I found that these baskets are perfect for housing them. We normally have an area in almost every room of our house where we store are blankets. My sitting room lacks storage, so these baskets actually come quite handy in there, especially since this is a place where my kids like to hide out and relax. It is somewhat of a quiet room. This particular room does not scream fall by any means. It is dark, but not cozy. After sprucing up this space with blankets and pillows, I definitely found myself drinking a warm cup of hot cocoa in here and cozying up to a nice magazine.
The smallest basket of the bunch works perfectly for decor purposes or it will do well in a pantry or to house snacks on a hot cocoa bar. My goal for this fall is just to add small touches of autumn to my front rooms, so I gathered some eucalyptus branches and pumpkins and put them in the baskets and placed it by the front door. It is subtle but it definitely adds a little bit of texture to the space which in return gives this moody foyer a comfy feeling. The velvet pumpkins helps soften this space as well. Don’t be afraid to mix and match with different textured basket. We use a basket to catch our mail and although it is is a different texture and weave from the seagrass basket, it complements it very well.
Another gorgeous way to use baskets in a purely functional way is by using them to store logs in. Not only do they help keep the logs off the floor and contained in one place, but it actually looks really nice. You can also add a pop of color to your baskets by using tassels and pompom so that the logs and baskets aren’t so monochromatic. I may sound like a crazy hoot, but we never used a fireplace before, so I don’t even know how to turn it on. On the upside, my logs look beautiful in that basket up against all that black!
